May is bang in the middle or almost in the middle of the year. Although not the most unique of months, it does have quite a few distinctions of its own. Maybe the ones who named it didn't like it that much or got bored or whatever, and when they sat down to decide a name for this month, they probably said, "Hey what should we name the fifth month?" "Meh!" 'cause it's the month with the shortest name! Anyway, let's go on and talk about the specialties of the month of May.

The month of May might have been named after the Greek goddess Maia & Roman goddess of fertility Bona Dea, according to some or it could have been named after the term maiores which is Latin for "elders" as cited by the roman poet Ovid.

Emerald is the birthstone of people that are born in this month, and emerald is a gemstone that signifies love and success.

 

 

 

3. Not a single US-prez has died!

 

 

May has the distinction of being the only month where not even a single US president has died. Nope, not one!

May 4th is celebrated as Star Wars Day, as it is pretty close in pronunciation to the phrase "May the force (fourth) be with you". This phrase is used extensively by the Jedi knights in the Star Wars movies & is a favorite amongst fans.

The first, legal homosexual marriage in the US was performed to Marcia Kadish, 56, and Tanya McCloskey, 52, the couple from Massachusetts.

On May 27, 1937, the Golden Gate Bridge that connects the channel between San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean.

The distress signal has nothing to do what so ever with the month of May. It is just a stylized version of the french word, venez m'aider which means "come, help me"!
