July is the seventh month and marks the beginning of the second half of the year. It is the warmest month for all the places in the Northern hemisphere, while it is the beginning of the cold and breezy days for the Southers hemisphere (closer to the equator). While for countries closer to the poles, it is observed to be the coldest month all year (Australia)! And it has the 4th of July of course! It was first called Quintilis before Rome came under Julius Caesar. When Caesar became the General of Rome, it was named after him, for it was the month that bore his birth.

3. The S.O.S. signal was adopted!

 

 

 

Although the morse code for distress, S. O. S., 3 dots, 3 dashes and 3 dots, was adopted in April 1905, it wasn't an internationally agreed upon code until July 1, 1908. This is considered to be the official adoption date for the distress signal!

9. Jim Morrison of Doors died!

 

 

 

Doors frontman, Jim Morrison, was found dead in his Paris apartment bathtub on July 3, 1971. The official report said that it was a heart-failure, but he was just 27 at the time!

 

 

 

10. Bugs Bunny debuted on TV!

 

 

 

 

On July 27, 1940, a cartoon series named A Wild Hare was released, which introduced to us to the words, "What's up, Doc?". These were the first words said to Elmer Fudd by our very own Bugs Bunny!

On July 16, 1969, Apollo 11, the spacecraft that carried out the first manned mission to the moon was launched from the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Kennedy, Florida with Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin aboard. At 10:56 p.m. EDT, on July 17, Neil and Buzz took that giant leap on behalf of all mankind on the moon, & was transmitted live to millions watching it on their Tv sets on Earth.
